What is the difference between a voucher and a discount code?

A voucher and a discount code may look similar at first glance, but they work differently.

Updated this week

Voucher

A voucher has a fixed monetary value, for example €25 or €50.
It is used like a payment method during checkout and is deducted from the total amount.

Good to know:

  • A voucher can also be used partially.

  • Any remaining balance stays on the voucher.

  • Vouchers cannot be paid out in cash.

A typical example is a gift voucher.

Discount code

A discount code gives you a percentage or fixed discount on your order, for example 15% off.

Good to know:

  • Discount codes are usually limited in time.

  • They usually cannot be combined with other codes.

  • In case of a return, the discount is applied proportionally.

  • Discount codes cannot be reactivated once used.

In short:
A voucher is credit.
A discount code is a price reduction.
